Why do clients opt for a map
Having an interactive map on the site, particularly on the homepage, allows site visitors to understand where the communities/cities are quickly. With just one or two clicks, users are taken to an inner page where they can read more about their chosen community + listings available within those areas.
Timeline and Pricing
- Timeline: 2-4 weeks including conversion
- Price: $999 (10 clickable areas)
- Add on: $50/additional area
Good to know:
Since we are handling VIP clients, make sure to assess your clients’ temperament and willingness to pay more. It is not worth haggling for an extra 20,000 SEO project for an additional map area. If you need guidance on how to handle such a situation, please consult with your managers.
Sold a map? Congratulations! Log the correspondence in Salesforce, ask your managers to create an opportunity in Salesforce and secure an authorization to charge from the client.
Project Set up + Tasking
Create an ala carte project for the map design. Map design must be tasked out once you already have the initial homepage design. This way, your designer can color match the map.

Once the client approves the map, you must create a design task for map hovers prior to queueing the map for conversion.

Limitations
By default, our designers use Google maps for the area outlines. Clients may be asked to provide the reference sites for more specific locations or if our designers are not able to find the areas in Google maps.
As the VIP project manager, you are responsible for providing guidelines for our designers to use. Example: Client wants neighborhoods in Chicago, IL. While Chicago is easy to find on the map, the neighborhoods may not.
Unconventional Maps
There are also maps beyond the normal scope of what we normally do for our custom maps. These require custom quotes for each one from our designers and developers. Some can take weeks or months to accomplish depending on the scope, and many of these require senior developers dedicated to the build for completion. Some of these will require IDX customization, while others might need the listings uploaded manually. We generally try to avoid these kinds of maps because of the work involved but if the client is willing to pay the cost, then we will need the complete scope of the map and request for a quote before we proceed.

Custom Map with pins
You may encounter a client who’d like to pin their active and sold listings on a map. This is only possible with the use of our Listings Module. As of this time, there is no way for Ihomefinder, IDX Broker or any other 3rd party provider to do so.
Examples:
-
Price: $999
-
Map Pin Limit: No limit
-
Non Negotiable Requirement: Client MUST provide Google Map API .
-
Timeline: Included on the homepage design. If adding on the homepage, you may already incorporate the map on the homepage design.
Project Set Up and Tasking:
There is no need for an ala carte project for this if it is just displayed on the homepage. If the same map need to be carried over to an inner page, then you need an ala carte (you may use one custom inner page if client purchased an Imagine Studio site/ala carte if semi custom)
Once the homepage with map design is converted, you will need to queue a task to WAD for the integration. Your manager will discuss this with you.

Map Revisions:
When you already have an existing design but need to adjust the layout, make sure you do the following:
Map is already converted: If you need to add new sections to an already converted map, you’ll need to:
-
Put in a quote in Basecamp so you know how many hours it will take. Once you have the quote, determine whether you will charge the client or not. When unsure, consult with your managers. Whether you give the map revisions for free or with charge, you need a Salesforce opp (your managers can help you with this).
-
Queue a design task for the additions. When doing so, make sure you:
- Have the comp link and PSD files of the current map. You need to add this to your task.
- Include the Salesforce opportunity on your task.
Last Resort
So your client won’t budge. They want a map but don’t want to pay. An idea is to have a static map (instead of interactive).
